Is Your Car Ready for Summer?

Bring your car and be ready to get under the hood at this hands-on program. Derek Scroggins, Ford City service manager, will discuss how to help your car through the stress of summer. Parts Manager Mark Shepherd will answer questions about parts and supplies. A technician will be available to look at your car and give you specific pointers. You'll also learn how to use the library's online Automobile Reference Center to get step-by-step instructions for nearly any procedure, plus wiring diagrams, maintenance specifications - all the information you need to keep your car in tip-top shape. Look for designated parking on the west side of the library lot.

A book sale and signing will follow each presentation. This event is a kickoff for the library's summer reading game, "Have Book, Will Travel." Register and pick up a reading log before or after the event; the game is for children and teens, from infants through high school. Sarah Weeks's visit is made possible, in part, by funding from the Franklin I. and Irene List Saemann Foundation.

In Concert at CPL: The Diva and the Dude

They perform with heart and soul and sass and brass, combining the Diva's velvet voice with the Dude's gripping guitar. Kathy Harden and Andy Baylor have been playing and singing in the CU area for decades. Classic blues, rock, and pop form the eclectic range of their repertoire, which includes music from artists such as Janis Joplin, John Prine, and Etta James. Prepare for fun! This monthly music performance series is made possible by funding from the Library Friends.

Community Cinema: "Love Free or Die"

In 2003, Gene Robinson became the first openly gay priest in a committed same-sex relationship to be ordained a bishop in any Christian denomination. His consecration has brought the Episcopal Church in America to the brink of a catastrophic schism and inspired threats of violence against Robinson himself. But Robinson continues to calmly make the case that who you love doesn't determine whether God loves you.

The FriendShop, on the library's lower level, offers like-new books for all ages, plus movies, CDs, and audiobooks. Most items cost $1 or less. Become a member of the Library Friends for $10 and enjoy monthly half-price savings shopwide, on the second weekend and the following Wednesday. The shop is open weekends from 1:30 to 4:30 pm and Wednesdays from noon to 3 pm.

Babies Love Books

Offered at the Douglass Branch Library every Thursday in June and July at 10:30 am (and at the Main Library every Monday at 9:45, 10:15, and 10:45 am). Introduce your baby to the joy of reading with stories, songs, and bounces for children from birth to 18 months of age, with their parent or caregiver.

Cover-to-Cover Book Discussion Group

Juneteenth Emancipation Day Celebration

A Day with Sir Randall

What was it like to train and equip a medieval knight? Wearing a mid-15th-century harness or suit of armour, Sir Randall will explore how knights were prepared, protected, and attacked. Get an up-close look at a display of medieval helmets, armour, and weapons.
