Know Humor: Is Laughter the Best Medicine?

Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 11/13/2012
Start Time: 4:30 PM
End Time: 5:30 PM
Description:
Studies have shown that laughter can trigger healthy physical changes in the body. From playing a crucial role in social bonding to increasing pain tolerance, laughter imparts benefits that last long after a good joke is told. Certified life coach, registered nurse, and laughter yoga practitioner Carol Delmonico discusses the power of laughter at this program presented by Deschutes Public Library as part of the November “Know Humor” series of programs.

In her presentation, which is offered at both the East Bend and Sunriver Area libraries, Delmonico will share how people can use laughter to reduce stress and boost their immune system. As a certified laughter yoga leader, Delmonico will also lead a laughter yoga demonstration. According to LaughterYoga.org, the practice combines “unconditional laughter with yogic breathing.” Laughter yoga is the brainchild of Indian physician Madan Kataria, who launched the first “laugher club” in 1995. Today, laughter yoga is formally practiced through more than 6,000 Laughter Yoga Clubs in nearly 60 countries.
