Know Cultura: Making Mole

Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adult, High School Age
Date: 10/17/2013
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:15 PM
Description:
Sometimes called the “curry of Mexico,” mole sauce has a reputation for being time consuming, labor intensive and requiring a plethora of ingredients. But it is possible to make it at home! In this presentation, part of Deschutes Public Library’s “Know Cultura” series of programs, Robin Martinez will give a history of the savory sauce while also showing participants how they can make their own mole. Mole has become a culinary symbol of Mexico’s mestizaje—people of mixed indigenous and European heritage.

Robin Martinez is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Humanities Department at Central Oregon Community College, where she also serves as an instructor of Latin American History in the Social Sciences Department. She spent time in Mexico as a teenager studying Spanish, Latin American culture, and the history of Mexico while living in Guadalajara.
