Event Type: Adult Program Age Group(s): Adult Date: 4/14/2014 Start Time: 6:00 PM End Time: 7:15 PM Description: Part of Hig’s regular routine includes traveling to help a settlement of Mennonite families who are infected with a contagious blood disease. He helps them from a distance so as not to be infected, but they are the only people he has met in nine years who have not tried to kill him. Mennonites came to America in the 17th century to flee persecution in Europe. Jerry Barkman, whose Mennonite grandparents came to the U.S. in the 1870s from South Russia, will trace the beliefs of the Mennonites as well as their movement throughout the world, then to the U.S. and to the Pacific Northwest.
