Kathleen Rockwell, aka “Klondike Kate,” danced her way to wealth and fame during the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon Territory before living in Central Oregon for many years. From vaudeville dancer and chorus girl to homesteader and impoverished celebrity, Kate was affectionately dubbed “Aunt Kate” by the people of Bend. In a life filled with many dramatic twists and turns, Kate exemplified the uniquely American capacity for reinvention.
