The people of Bend came together and made the best of the situation. With the election of Roosevelt, Bend started getting help through the elaborate relief system set up by the government. Federal and state money was pumped into work relief projects that paid for a library, post office, new roads & highways, and many other projects.

He is a board member of the Deschutes Historical Society and the editor of the society’s monthly newsletter.
