Local author and historian Tor Hanson highlights everything you want to know about the Great Depression seen through the eyes of Bend's millworkers and business owners. The people of Bend came together and made the best of the situation. With the election of Roosevelt, Bend started getting help through the elaborate relief system set up by the government. Federal and state money was pumped into work relief projects that paid for a library, post office, new roads & highways, and many other projects.

Freelance writer and local historian Tor Hanson is passionate about history, especially Central Oregon’s history. He is a board member of the Deschutes Historical Society and the editor of the society’s monthly newsletter. He has also presented three History Pubs: The Prohibition in Bend; The Great Depression in Bend; and The Nordeen Legacy.
