Description:
 Gwen Carr, current board secretary of the Oregon Black Pioneers, presents an overview of black history in Oregon beginning in 1788. Primarily focused on the 1800s, Carr’s presentation will include a couple of surprises that involve Central Oregon black pioneers.

Oregon Black Pioneers is a state wide organization with a mission of doing historical research and honoring the lives of African Americans who have contributed to the historical development of Oregon. In her role, Carr develops exhibits, displays, and does presentations for schools, colleges, historical societies, and civic organizations. She has curated three exhibits on Oregon’s black history at the Oregon Historical Society Museum in Portland and is Co-Leader for the 2018 exhibit.
