Explore the psychology behind why humans may believe in ghosts, the afterlife, or other mysterious aspects of life.

This presentation, led by COCC's Dr. Andria Woodell, will explore some of the psychology behind why humans may believe in ghosts, the afterlife, or simply have an overall curiosity to generate explanations for the chaotic and sometimes mysterious aspects of life.

Dr. Andria Woodell is a Professor of Psychology at Central Oregon Community College. Her doctoral work investigated the situational factors that influenced retributive justice. Her courses at COCC focus on areas pertaining to social psychology, positive psychology, and the psychology of violence. In 2017, she was the recipient of the COCC faculty achievement award. In addition to teaching, she serves as one of the advisors for COCC's COPE club and the mentor for the COCC Heroic Imagination Team--a nonprofit established by Dr. Phillip Zimbardo that trains college students on" the power of one" so they can teach back to the community and spread the idea of positive change. She has lived in Bend for 13 years and spends her time trying to keep up with the active Bendites, hanging with her husband, and wrangling her crew of three fur buddies.
