Description:
Explore the intersection of gender and race in current politics.

How does the intersection of race and gender impact civil right movements? In 1868, the 14th Amendment extended the right to vote to African American men - to the exclusion of all women. This talk will explore what was at stake with the right to vote, how the 14th Amendment impacted the suffrage movement, and the role of race and gender in American politics today.

Presented by local historian Michelle Seiler Godfrey.
