Downtown Bend: Writers Working - Revision

Dr. Emily Carr Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 2/5/2018
Start Time: 5:30 PM
End Time: 7:30 PM
Description:
Learn to revise your work with Dr. Emily Carr.

This seminar is open to writers in all genres. Participants should bring a ten pages or five poems from a work-in-progress. Author Chris Offut likens revision to surgery without anesthesia. How do you achieve the ruthless objectivity to get past the first draft? How do you know when an essay or a story or a poem is finished? What about long-form projects?

Dr. Emily Carr has said she "writes murder mysteries that turn into love poems that are sometimes ... called divorce poems." She has lived all over the world and is the author of several collections and chapbooks of poems. She earned an MFA in poetry from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and a doctorate in ecopoetics at the University of Calgary. She is the program director of the low-residency MFA in creative writing at Oregon State University-Cascades.
