Horowitz explores how the Jazz Age Ku Kluz Klan attracted millions of middle-class and urban followers across the nation and how a coalition of Oregonians contributed to the movement's demise by contesting the order's fusion of ethnic prejudice, anti-intellectualism, and purity reform. A native of the Bronx, New York, Horowitz is a graduate of Antioch College and the recipient of a History PhD. from the University of Minnesota. He has taught U.S. Cultural and Modern Political History at Portland State University since 1968. Professor Horowitz is the editor and annotator of a collection of La Grande, Oregon KKK minutes entitled "Inside the Klavern: The Secret History of a 1920s Ku Klux Klan."
