Event Type: Adult Program Age Group(s): Adult Date: 12/11/2018 Start Time: 5:30 PM End Time: 7:30 PM Description: Write your own hero's journey.
Library: Downtown Bend Public LibraryWhat makes a Hero? What’s the point of all that struggling, and why can’t we stop watching? In this two-hour workshop, we’ll examine Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth, or The Hero’s Journey. We’ll discuss examples of The Hero’s Journey, talk about different kinds of heroes, mythic elements and archetypes, and learn how the monomyth plot template informs our own writing. Then we’ll design and outline our own Hero’s Journey. Bring something to write with, something to write on, an inquisitive mind, and your favorite example of The Hero’s Journey (think Star Wars, The Matrix, Wizard of Oz, anything from Disney, etc.). Mike Cooper is a graduate of the OSU-Cascades MFA Writing Program and has led several writing workshops for Deschutes Public Library, Caldera Arts, OSU Cascades, and The Workhouse in Bend. He recently placed in the top 25 for Glimmer Train's New Writer's Award. *cr* Location: Brooks Room Contact: Liz Goodrich Contact Number: 541-312-1032 Presenter: Mike Cooper Status: Closed |
