Library: East Bend Public LibraryKim Stafford has shaped his works around the notion of poetry as a luxury that could save your life--perhaps a little at a time--by making your days more buoyant, filled with curiosity and insight, and emotionally rich. Learn how to make poetry and writing a daily practice with Oregon Poet Laureate Kim Stafford. Kim Stafford, the son of poet William Stafford, received his Ph.D. in medieval literature from the University of Oregon. Since 1979, he has taught writing at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. He has also taught courses at Willamette University in Salem, at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, at the Fishtrap writers' gathering, and private workshops in Scotland, Italy, and Bhutan. In July 2018, he was appointed Oregon's Poet Laureate by Govenor Kate Brown. The Poet Laureate Program is a collaborative project of the state's five cultural partners, the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Humanities, Oregon Heritage Commission, Oregon Historical Society, and the State Historic Preservation Office, with funding from the Oregon Cultural trust. Stafford is the founding director of the Northwest Writing Institute and is the literary executor of the Estate of William Stafford. *cr* Location: Meeting Room Contact: Paige M.
