Description:
On January 14, 1920, Oregon voted to ratify the 19th Amendment. Commemorate with LOWV and DPL.

On January 14, 1920, Oregon became the twenty-fifth state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which stated: "The right of citizens to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State, on account of sex." Most Oregon women had achieved voting rights in 1912 and many had been voting since that time, but Oregon was one of the first states to usher in voting equality across the nation with the 19th Amendment.

Commemorate women's suffrage with the League of Women Voters. Hear from a panel of local women politicians on why the vote is important to them, and why they choose to serve. Refreshments and social hour from 7-7:30 PM following the panel for a chance to speak with the panel guests.

The panel guests include:

Nancy Blankenship, Deschutes County Clerk, is responsible for election administration, recording property transactions, issue marriage licenses, archiving and records storage, Board of Property Tax Appeals, passports and more.

Sally Russell - Sally Russell was elected and seated on the City Council as Mayor in January 2019. Sally is Bend’s first elected Mayor since 1923.

Judy Stiegler was elected to Oregon State House District 54 in 2008, defeating Chuck Burley by close to 2,700 votes and raising almost $600,000, the most expensive local house race for its time!

Geri Hauser will moderate this event. Geri is a native Oregonian, longtime resident of Bend and was an employee of Deschutes County for 25 years. She has been active in the League for over 10 years and has served as secretary, publicity chair, webmaster and most recently has stepped up to lead as President.

This is a nonpartisan event.
