Learn about responsible community responses to our natural wildfire environment.

Alison Green, Coordinator of "Oregon: Living with Fire", will offer context on our fire environment, best practice for residents, and how the residents can engage in landscape health.

Central Oregon is no stranger to wildland fire. Due to our local reality, Central Oregon residents have a responsibility to understand our local ecosystem and wildfire risk. The local landscapes need active management, including the introduction of fire back into our landscape, to make it more resilient to disturbance and meet management objectives in a variety of conditions. Neighborhoods and communities throughout the area need to improve and sustain the capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from wildfire. By taking community-wide actions, homeowners can ensure their home is resilient to ignition, and their yard is prepared to survive a wildland fire event.

Alison is the Coordinator of "Oregon: Living with Fire". This local group, based in 5 counties in Central Oregon, facilitate efforts to create and maintain resilient landscapes, create and maintain Fire Adapted Communities, and better integrate wildland fire response. The best practices they work to facilitate are increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire, community preparedness actions, acceptance of risk by multiple sectors, and build relationships across sectors to make Central Oregon more resilient. Previous to her current position, Alison worked in wildland fire for more than a decade as a natural resources facilitator, educator, and wildland firefighter with the US Forest Service.
