Issues Event Type: COVID Closure - Private
Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 4/8/2020
Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Time: 12:30 PM
Description:
Let’s talk about responding to political polarization.

We live in interesting times and face increasing divisiveness in our country. The library has created a space to discover where we can agree, where we can compromise, and where we can disagree with civility as we discuss some of the most contentious issues of the day. Join us as we deepen our understanding of issues through discussion with each other.

Dean Harris is an adjunct instructor of history at Central Oregon Community College. He teaches courses in US history, world history, and European history, and is editor of a collection of essays entitled Multiculturalism from the Margins (1995). Since moving to Oregon in 2007, he has volunteered for the Deschutes County Circuit Court, KPOV-88.9, and Bend Park and Recreation. He enjoys biking and cross-country skiing in his leisure time, and though he still prefers SoCal beaches, is overjoyed to be an Oregonian.

Tom teaches a variety of sociology courses at Central Oregon Community College. Two areas of particular interest are the examination of and responses to systems producing privilege and inequity and understanding the organization and impact of the culture industries. Regardless of topic, past or present, Tom encourages analysis and empathy to foster understanding.
