Portland author Matt Wastradowski will talk about staying safe outdoors, share a few less-traveled trails in southern and eastern Oregon, and detail the surprising history behind some of our favorite outdoor spaces. He'll also offer tips for responsible recreation and planning hikes away from the region's biggest crowds this summer.

Matt Wastradowski is a travel and outdoors writer based in Portland, Oregon. Whether on assignment or just for fun, chances are good he’s doing something that deepens his passion and enthusiasm for the Beaver State and the broader Pacific Northwest. In recent years, he’s visited more than 250 breweries and cideries, hiked all four corners of Oregon (multiple times over!), and driven roughly 30,000 miles around the region. He’s camped in tents, yurts, and fire lookouts. And he’s spent countless hours exploring seemingly every backcountry road this state has to offer, often with no bars on his iPhone.

Matt has written for a variety of publications, including Bend Magazine, Outside, REI’s Co-op Blog, Willamette Week, and Northwest Travel & Life. His recent book is "Moon Pacific Northwest Hiking" covering hikes in Washington and Oregon.
