Date: 4/10/2023
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:00 PM
Description:
Explore how to plan ahead for living well as you age.

This is an in-person program. Registration is not required.

This interactive workshop, hosted by The Peaceful Presence Project, will explore the benefits of a holistic approach to planning ahead for living well as we age. Facilitators will guide participants through various preparedness considerations, including a look at the practical, emotional and spiritual complexities that arise during illness and end of life experiences.

Research shows that the more we can talk about and plan for death and dying in a candid manner, the more we can be moved by life. A willingness to entertain states of preparedness allows individuals to be more clear eyed about what logistical, relational and physical realities might need more attention today, bringing more clarity and wellbeing as one nears the end of life.

Participants will gain exposure to a variety of different end of life planning and contemplative resources, including practice with core elements of The Peaceful Presence Project’s evidence-based, holistic guidebook, endnotes. Participants are encouraged to bring a pen and notebook.

Facilitated by Elizabeth Johnson, MA and Erin Collins, RN CHPN
Elizabeth is the Executive Director of The Peaceful Presence Project, a community-based organization here in Central Oregon. She is a trained end-of-life doula, as well as a graduate of the 2-year "Anamcara Project" apprenticeship program, with a focus on the spirituality of grief and loss. She is a certified advance care planning educator for the Institute on HealthCare Directives, a certified pregnancy loss group facilitator, and a member of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Illness Care. With a master's degree in Community Planning and Not-for-Profit Management, Elizabeth's travels have taken her around the globe, awakening fascination with the cultural and social contexts which shape human understanding of the mysteries of life and death.

Erin is the Program Director of The Peaceful Presence Project. She is a certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse with 16 years of experience in hospice and adult and pediatric oncology and a trained end-of-life doula. She co-founded The Peaceful Presence Project after seeing that many patients came to hospice afraid of death and largely unprepared for it. Erin is the Vice-Chair of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s End-of-Life Doula Advisory Council, and is an ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Consortium) trainer. She was recently selected as a 2022 Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar, exploring the use of Community Health Workers to increase rural access to palliative care.
