Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 4/2/2024
Start Time: 6:30 PM

Description:
Join us for a night of poetry with Carol Barrett.

In presenting her new book just released from The Poetry Box, a Portland-based literary press, Carol will begin with a poem for the widows who originally inspired her pursuit of poetry. She will share poems from Reading Wind, all inspired by her father, a country doctor, musician, and farmer. There will be opportunity for questions, and signed copies of books will be available for purchase.

Carol Barrett began writing poetry over forty years ago while counseling widowed persons. She fell in love with the craft, and ultimately earned a Ph.D. in Creative Writing with a minor in Religious Studies. (Her first doctorate was in Clinical Psychology.) Reading Wind is Carol’s third volume of poetry. She has also published a book of creative nonfiction, Pansies, a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards. Carol’s poems appear in venues in seven countries, and in over 50 anthologies. She has been awarded a Poetry Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Carol still engages poetry to assist with grief, as well as to celebrate joy. She has taught poetry at several colleges and universities, including COCC.
