Description:
Explore Monet’s gardens with Jason Lamb, art history professor at COCC.

Perhaps the most important leader of the Impressionist movement, Claude Monet was one of the first artists to create paintings almost entirely outside, in the open air. His fascination with the optical effects of color and light led to some of the most innovative and memorable landscapes of the 19th Century. Many of these were directly inspired by the gardens at his various homes in the 1870s and 1880s. Most expansive of all were his gardens at Giverny, which inspired hundreds of paintings and series that remain incredibly popular even today. Join COCC’s Associate Professor of Art History Jason Lamb on an exploration of Monet’s gardens, as immortalized in some of the artist’s most enduring works.

Jason is an associate professor of Art History at COCC. He comes from a lengthy fine arts background, having completed two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees (in painting and art history) at the University of Illinois, and a Master of Arts in art history from Northern Illinois University.  Jason has been teaching visual arts and art history since 2006 and joined COCC in the fall of 2013.

His primary area of art historical expertise is early modern art, including extensive experience discussing and instructing students in the history of art from many different time periods and cultures around the world. In addition to his role as an art historian, Jason is also a practicing artist with a background in painting and digital illustration. He regularly participates in the annual Faculty Art Exhibition and has made his work and artistic expertise available to students and the local community in numerous ways, most notably as faculty advisor to the student Art Club, and through his ongoing collaborative work with Deschutes Public Library and Mountain View High School. In addition to his own studio practice, Jason has sporadically done contract work in concept art and animation for various companies in the video game industry.
