The Battle’s Over - An International Tribute
"March no more my soldier laddie,
There is peace where there once was war.
Sleep in peace my soldier laddie,
Sleep in peace, now the battle’s over."
The Lafayette Historical Society commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I
Local bagpiper David Burrous presents a program marking the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.
David will play famous bagpipe pieces from WWI, WWII and other conflicts to accompany a slide presentation of important WWI battles, composers, pipers, soldiers and cemeteries.
More than 2500 bagpipers were enlisted in battalions during WWI alone, of which more than 1000 were killed leading troops over the ramparts. This is their story.
On Sunday, November 11, 2018, a thousand pipers from around the world, including David, will play the bagpipe tune The Battles Over in public to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI and honour the millions who died in the trenches and on the battlefields of the Western Front or returned home dreadfully wounded.
*The event’s name is taken from the old bagpipe tune When the Battle’s O’er, traditionally played at the end of a conflict.
Location: Meeting Room (Lower Level)
