Event Details

Rolling Hills Estates, CA –Join us for PVLD’s Classic Movies at Noon, a film series featuring essential films from Hollywood from the 1930s through the 1970s. The Classics @ Noon series takes place on the first Monday of every month. Our next film screening will be FREAKS at noon, October 6 in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. This event is free and open to the public. Following the film, there may be a brief discussion facilitated by the coordinator of the series. To celebrate Halloween later in October, the Classics @ Noon series will show one of the most shocking movies ever released: FREAKS. Released in 1932, the original version of Tod Browning's essential horror film was too scandalous for the era and was promptly pulled from theatres across the USA, banned in England for 30 years and killed the once promising career of Browning. In fact, the version of the film that exists today is not the original, that version was destroyed by MGM as they edited the film from 90 minutes to a less complete 65 minutes. What made this film from 1932 so controversial? Watch the trailer below and then come to PVLD on October 6 to see the heavily edited version starring actual sideshow performers for yourself. FREAKS will screen at Noon on October 6 in the Peninsula Center library community room and has a running time of 65 minutes.
