Ciné-Monde: Global cinema at the Peninsula Center Library Rolling Hills Estates, CA –Join us for PVLD’s Ciné-Monde, a film series featuring notable films from around the globe. Our next film screening will be YOU, THE LIVING at 5:30pm, Thursday, July 10 in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. This event is free and open to the public. Following the film, there may be a brief discussion facilitated by the coordinator of the series. YOU, THE LIVING: To put it simply, Sweden's Roy Andersson is one of the most unique directors working today in cinema. Andersson doesn't work much though. Since 1975, Andersson has only directed two films--SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR [2000] and YOU, THE LIVING [2007]. Andersson's vision often involves tragedy and comedy, the grotesque and the beautiful, mingled into a potent mix as unprofessional actors exist in the atmospheric, completely fabricated worlds that Andersson creates on sound studios in Stockholm. Not tethered to a single narrative, Andersson's unusual world is one that has no center as he shifts his attention from character to character. Andersson has made his living over the years directing widely acclaimed and original commercials throughout Europe that are very similar to his film style. YOU, THE LIVING screens on July 10 at 5:30 PM, is rated R, has a running time of 98 minutes and will be in its original Swedish with English subtitles.
