Have you ever thought about writing a book? Then don’t miss this afternoon event showcasing locally-based authors and illustrators. Meet! Greet! Listen and converse! This is the third year that Palos Verdes Library District has sponsored the Local Author Fair, an extremely popular community event. Come learn what it takes to write, publish, and sell novels, picture books, memoirs, poetry collections, and more! Authors of varying genres will be present, and books will be available on-site for purchase. Bring the whole family: there will be something for all ages! New this year will be: • A Writer’s Workshop, with four dynamic speakers • Networking opportunities • PVLD’s popular Pop-up Library, featuring resources for writers • A special book craft for kids Four local authors will be speaking at the Writer’s Workshop on the following topics: • “HOW TO BREAK INTO PUBLISHING NON-FICTION” by Elizabeth Letts About the speaker: Elizabeth Letts is a prize-winning author who grew up in Palos Verdes. She has written and published two novels, a children’s picture book, and the #1 New York Times bestseller: Eighty Dollar Champion: Snowman, the Horse that Inspired a Nation, recently optioned by MGM Studios. • “FINDING A LITERARY AGENT” by Taylor Reid About the speaker: Taylor Reid is an author and essayist living in Los Angeles. Before becoming a writer, she worked in entertainment and education. Her debut novel, Forever Interrupted, was published in 2013. Drawing from personal experience, her fears, mistakes, and misconceptions, she will focus on successfully finding not just any literary agent, but the right one for your work! • “ADAPTING BOOKS INTO SCREENPLAYS” by Mark Evan Schwartz About the speaker: Mark Evan Schwartz is a Palos Verdes resident and Associate Professor of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television. He has written How To Write a Screenplay, currently in its second edition. His discussion will teach the art, craft, and business of adaption as it applies to the fundamentals of cinematic storytelling. • “OVERCOMING FEAR” by Tom Zoellner About the speaker: Tom Zoellner is a Los Angeles journalist, author, and Associate Professor of English at Chapman University. He is the author of six books, the most recent of which, Train: Riding the Rails That Created the Modern World, was published in January 2014.
