Event Details

Rolling Hills Estates, CA –Join us for PVLD’s Classic Movies at Noon, a film series featuring essential films from Hollywood from the 1930s through the 1970s. The Classics @ Noon series takes place on the first Monday of every month. Our next film screening will be BREAKING AWAY at noon on April 6 in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. This event is free and open to the public. Following the film, there may be a brief discussion facilitated by the coordinator of the series. In the 1970s there were a bunch of sports-related movies that really weren't about sports at all--movies such as ROCKY, THE BAD NEWS BEARS and SLAP SHOT were usually about scrappy underdogs who fight against all odds to get to the big climactic scene at the end of the movie. Sometimes the underdogs won, sometimes they lost. Well, BREAKING AWAY is the same kind of "sports" movie that is sort of about a bicycle race, but it is really a coming of age movie about growing up and moving toward adulthood whilst dealing with trying to maintain relationships with both family and childhood friends. Funny and genuinely capturing young people at youthful crossroads, BREAKING AWAY won an Oscar for best original screenplay and stars Dennis Christopher, Dennis Quaid, Jackie Earle Haley, Daniel Stern and the great Paul Dooley. BREAKING AWAY is rated PG, has a running time of 100 minutes and will be screened at Noon on April 6 in the Peninsula Center library community room.
