Event Details

Ciné-Monde: Global cinema at the Peninsula Center Library Rolling Hills Estates, CA –Join us for PVLD’s Ciné-Monde, a film series featuring notable films from around the globe. Our next film screening will be SUGAR at 5:30pm, Thursday, April 9 in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room. This event is free and open to the public. Following the film, there may be a brief discussion facilitated by the coordinator of the series. SUGAR is a film from 2008 that lets you into a world you don't see in mainstream sports movies: it strips away the glamour of being a professional athlete to reveal the struggle of making it as a teenage immigrant, ill equipped to handle day-to-day life, no matter how good you are on the baseball diamond. SUGAR, written and directed by the filmmakers who made HALF NELSON in 2006, is a poignant, raw and moving look at the pursuit of the American dream of making it to the major leagues. SUGAR is rated PG-13, has a running time of 114 minutes and will screen at 5:30 PM on April 9th in English and Spanish with English subtitles in the Peninsula Center library community room.
