Redline Zydeco

When: Saturday, February 13, 2010 - 1:00 PM
Where: Duryea Room

In celebration of Black History Month, Redline Zydeco will play traditional Zydeco music inspired by Southwestern Louisiana as well as discuss the history of Louisiana music in this all ages performance. The band consists of Frank Boehm (guitar, lead vocal), Ron Broida (bass), Paul Mastriani (drums), Russ Roberts (single and triple row accordions) and Jeremy Whiting (scrub board).

Therapy Dogs

Join Rita Wagner and her two therapy dogs, Josie and Widget, as Rita shares a story and talks about the responsibilities of therapy dogs and dog ownership. A craft will follow the presentation. Parent or caregiver must accompany child.

Josie the Amazing Listening Dog & her sidekick Widget

Kids! You're invited to read a story to Josie, a very friendly Springer Spaniel, and her curly friend Widget, who visit the library Monday afternoons.

Attention Parents: Josie and Widget are licensed therapy dogs who love children. Children who are hesitant, embarrassed or shy about their reading skills can feel at ease around a dog who will patiently sit and listen.

In conjunction with SUNY Brockport's The Big Read, Children's Librarian Kathleen Phillips will read Catherine Cowan's children's book, "My Life with the Wave," based on the short story by Mexican author Octavio Paz. We will also make a craft celebrating Mexican culture.

The Real Underground Railroad

Tim McDonnell from Osher Speakers will discuss how thousands of “Freedom Seekers” left slavery and headed north, with a special emphasis on New York and the Rochester area. Presented in celebration of Black History month.
