Event Type: Adult Program Date: 9/7/2022 Start Time: 7:00 PM End Time: 8:00 PM Description: The Roosevelt era’s Works Progress Administration (WPA) is known for its many huge infrastructure projects and improvements. But it also consisted of a little known program called the Packhorse Librarians. This presentation tells the story of the Packhorse Librarians, a relatively small group of women, whose mission was to deliver and distribute reading materials to the far-off corners of Appalachia during the darkest hours of the Great Depression. This will be a shared virtual program with the Pelham Public Library, Irvington, Harrison, Somers and Tuckahoe Public Libraries.
