Mark Levy, a civil rights movement veteran and former teacher and union organizer, will talk about what he learned participating in Mississippi Freedom Summer 1964, where he served as the coordinator of the Meridian Freedom School - part of the summer’s voter registration and Democratic Convention challenge efforts.
He is featured in the short PBS video:

We will start with a social half hour and refreshments at 2:00.

At 2:30, we will begin our presentation.

For those of you unable to be with us in person, this meeting will be hybrid (live/Zoom). Please join us online at 2:30. A link will be sent the day before.

Because we have limited time and there is so much that Mark will be covering in our session, we ask that you view one of these two documentaries beforehand.

1994's "Freedom On My Mind" is available on Vimeo for a rental fee of $4.99:
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/freedomonmymind
or on the Kanopy service for free with a valid library card:

The 2014 PBS documentary "Freedom Summer" is available for free here:
https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/freedomsummer/

Seeing one, or both, of these films in advance will enhance our understanding of Mark's experience and observations.
