Event Type: Adult Program|
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM
The Somers Library Classic Book Group meets on Monday Nov. 13, 6:30-7:45 p.m. via Zoom (Oct-Mar) to discuss “Lolita” by Vladmir Nabokov. Humbert, scholar, aesthete and romantic, has fallen completely in love with Dolores Haze, his landlady’s twelve year old daughter. Humbert marries Mrs. Haze just to be close to Lolita. Described as “hilarious, flamboyant, heart-breaking, and full of ingenious word play, Lolita is an unforgettable masterpiece of obsession, delusion and lust.” This novel is notable for its controversial subject. It continues to generate controversy as modern day society has become increasingly aware of the lasting damage caused by child abuse.
This book has received critical acclaim regardless of the controversy and censorship with the public.
The Somers Library Classic Book Group discusses classic titles recommended by the group, identified by surveys, and facilitated by Diana Cunningham, Librarian. The group meets on Monday nights, bimonthly. Meetings are now via Zoom (Oct-Mar) and open to all interested Somers residents.
