PROGRAMS WITH THE CHILDREN'S LIBRARY Drop in crafts all week - Kindness rocks, Thankful Turkey craft and color-a-smile coloring pages Kindness Bingo - complete Kindness Bingo and get a small prize We are also accepting donations into the children's room this Kindness Week. (Max 5 books per family please) Tuesday, November 14th 10:30 AM, Tot time - friendship songs and fun 3:45 PM, Afterschool Storytime - can do drop in crafts right after Wednesday, November 15th, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Playdate - special art - color-a-smile coloring pages PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS & TEENS Kindness Week Event: Kindness Week "Reels" Movie Matinee Event presents: “Good Will Hunting” Monday, November 13th, 10:15 AM - 12:45 PM This 1987 American psychological drama film stars Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Stellan Skarsgard, and Minnie Driver. Will Hunting, a janitor at M.I.T., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life. “A touching tale of a wayward young man who struggles to find his identity, living in a world where he can solve any problem, except the one brewing deep within himself, until one day he meets his soul mate who opens his mind and his heart.” This film is on the American Film Institute’s (AFI) list of 100 Greatest American Movies of all time. 2 Hours 6 Minutes. Movies selected are based on monthly themes, quality and ratings, with length approximately two hours. Join us! Kindness Week Event: Help Pack Necessity Kits for the Homeless* Tuesday, November 14th, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Thursday, November 16th, 2 PM - 4 PM The Somers Library has been asking for donations of items that can be included in necessity kits for the homeless. Join us to pack up these kits so they are ready to be distributed to the homeless. *Since this workshop benefits the homeless, it could be considered for community service hours. Kindness Week Event: Kindness Week Rocks! Rock Painting for Adults & Teens Thursday, November 16th, 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM Painting rocks is a wonderful way to destress, have fun and add a little kindness to someone’s day. Paint a rock for yourself, and paint one for a neighbor or friend who needs some cheering up. What would be more fun than secretly leaving a colorful rock on someone’s porch! Rocks and art supplies provided while supplies last. Kindness Week Event: Teens and Adults: Create Beaded Earrings Thursday, November 16th, 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM** Can’t make it at 4:30 pm? Join us anytime up until 6:00 pm! Come to the Somers Library to make your own beaded earrings and make additional pairs to donate. For example, for every pair of earrings you make for yourself, you will also make the same amount to be donated** to a local women's shelter. This free program is intended for adults, teens & tweens in 6th grade & up. **Since this workshop benefits a women's shelter, it could be considered for community service hours. Kindness Week Event: Aromatherapy Crafts for Teens Friday, November 17th, 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM Aromatherapy is a great way to help you relax and these two crafts will give you a chance to take those wonderful scents with you. We will be crafting a bracelet and a keychain with a choice of six different essential oils to choose as your personal aromatherapy. Come make something for yourself or as a kind gift for a friend/family member who suffers from anxiety. AROUND THE LIBRARY DURING ALL WEEK FOR KINDNESS WEEK This year Somers Library is collecting for the less fortunate. Beginning 10/28 we will be accepting donations for several good causes. Donations boxes will be set up in the library foyer to collect: Greeting Cards for Our Troops Write a card for our troops that will not be home for the holidays. United for the Troops will add them to the boxes going out after Thanksgiving. Food Pantry Donation Raffle Donate food for the St. Lukes Food Bank (canned / non perishable items), and get a raffle ticket to win a gift basket for donating food items - 1 per donation! Donations for the Homeless Travel size shampoo & conditioner, feminine hygiene products, lip balm, hand sanitizer, sunscreen. Collected items to be used to create necessity kits for the homeless and will be distributed to homeless shelters. Add to Our Mitten Tree New or very gently used mittens, scarves, hats to be hung on our Mitten Tree. Collected items to be sent to homeless shelters. Diaper Drive Donate diapers (all sizes) and Baby formula (unopened containers) to the needy. Collected items to be sent to homeless shelters. |
