 Race Amity Day was created by the National Center for Race Amity in Boston, MA. Their purpose is to promote friendship within the human family and explore the history of racial cooperation. The Somers event is to sponsor local celebrations of this day and assist in establishing Race Amity Day as a national holiday. Our event will open with light refreshments, a meet and greet and music performed by the Souls United of the Hudson Valley Choir. Following this introduction will be a showing of a shortened version of the film "An American Story: Race Amity and The Other Tradition." After the the film will be a discussion facilitated by Deirdra “Jen” Brown, founder of the “Race Unity Circle”. The program will then close with music performed by the Souls United of the Hudson Valley Choir, after which will be a potluck picnic on the lawn in front of the library or, in the case of inclement weather, in the Program Room.
