Event Type: Adult Program Age Group(s): Adult Date: 3/2/2018 Start Time: 1:00 PM End Time: 2:00 PM Description: Why are there so many Mexican immigrants in the United States, and why are so many of them undocumented? In this talk, Julie M. Weise, an Associate Professor of History at the University of Oregon, will help us answer this question. Her presentation will discuss the history of Mexican immigration to the United States, the “push” and “pull” factors that have brought so many here, and legal changes that have left so many vulnerable to deportation. She will also be happy to engage in conversation about the Trump administration’s policies towards Mexico and Mexican immigration.
Library: Sisters Public LibraryWeise received her Ph.D from Yale University and has been at UO since 2013. Her first book, Corazón de Dixie: Mexicanos in the U.S. South since 1910 won the 2015 Merle Curti Award for the best book in U.S. social history from the Organization of American Historians.
