 Hear about recent cosmic discoveries in the solar system and beyond.

Dr. Paul Bellaire, retired Program Director for Solar Physics at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and former Physics Instructor in the Energy Systems Engineering Program at OSU-Cascades, will offer a multimedia discussion of recent cosmic discoveries in the solar system and beyond, featuring images and video from astronomers and space agencies from around the world. Covering new observations from Earth's orbit, to the discovery of multiple oceans in our solar system, to the detection of planets around other stars, and to the controversies concerning the expanding Universe itself, this talk should be educational for the entire family.

Dr. Bellaire served as a Program Director in the Geosciences Directorate of the NSF in Arlington, Virginia, from May 2004 until Dec 2012, when he retired from the federal government. He moved to Bend in Sep 2014 and later taught at OSU-Cascades in Bend during the 2016-17 academic year. Dr. Bellaire earned his PhD in Atmospheric Physics at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Bellaire's other degrees include his MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, his MS in Meteorology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and his BS in Physics from the University of California (UCLA) in Los Angeles, California
