Explore the richness and diversity of Mexican culture through this holiday.

In Mexico holidays and celebrations show how rich and diverse Mexican culture is. Christmas is a good example to understand this idea. In this celebration it is clear the interaction of European and Indigenous cultures as well as the regional variations where a broad set of practices are in play. This presentation will explore different cultural influences in the Christmas celebration in Mexico.

Dr. Enrique Chacón is Assistant Professor of Spanish at Southern Oregon University. His main focus is Mexican Literature, Film and Visual Arts. He approaches different contemporary topics from the Cultural Studies perspective as well as Critical Theory. He has studied humor in Poetry as well as the Narrative and Intellectual production in the second half of the 20th century in Mexico. His current research includes the representations of violence in Latin America and US Latino Culture. He has a Ph.D. and MA from the University of Pittsburgh, and an MA from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla.
