Hear an insightful conversation on immigration issues in Central Oregon and beyond.

Join immigrant rights advocate/DACA recipient Lily Bernabe and Kelsey Freeman, author of "No Option but North: The Migrant World and the Perilous Path Across the Border", for an insightful conversation on immigration issues in Central Oregon and beyond. Freeman and Bernabe will share their research and experiences to reveal the moral blind spots in contemporary migration —from the expanding gang violence that drives migrants out of their home countries to the realities of being an immigrant in Central Oregon.

Kelsey Freeman is the author of the nonfiction book "No Option but North: The Migrant World and the Perilous Path Across the Border" (IG Publishing 2020), based on a year of interviewing Central American migrants on their journey north through a Fulbright Fellowship. She has presented and interviewed across the country on immigration policy. Kelsey currently works at Central Oregon Community College, where she runs a college-readiness program for Native American high school students. When she is not writing or teaching, Kelsey serves on the City of Bend Accessibility Advisory Committee, teaches personal finance workshops in Spanish, and spends time in the mountains.

Lily Bernabe became a DACA Recipient in 2014 and has passionately advocated for our Latinx community since she became aware of the injustices they face. She has lobbied at our state capitol and spoken to state representatives demanding support for our Latinx community. Lily is currently enrolled at OSU-Cascades where she plans to pursue a degree in Pre-Law. She is currently working as a legal assistant for the public defender's office and works and volunteers as a Spanish medical interpreter during her free time.
