Birding Field Trip at Hatfield Lake

Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adult
Date: 7/13/2021
Start Time: 7:30 AM
End Time: 10:00 AM
Description:
This is an in-person, outdoor event. Registered participants will receive meet-up instructions prior to the event. Registration closes Friday, July 11.

Spend a morning birding the Hatfield Lake in Bend and learn about bird identification, biology, and migration patterns.

The Hatfield Lake is the City of Bend’s Wastewater Treatment facility and an excellent birding location. The group will walk around the levees to view birds (up to a mile walk on flat terrain). Participants should have a pair of binoculars, bird field guide, appropriate clothing, and water and a snack. Spotting scopes are also useful.

Damian Fagan is a former NPS Ranger and contract biologist who has worked on many avian projects surveying for spotted owls, peregrine falcons, northern goshawks, songbirds, and greater sage-grouse. He works seasonally as the Adopt a Lek volunteer coordinator for ODFW and has led birding field trips for COCC’s Continuing Education program.
