Oregon became the first state in the US to adopt law making access to psilocybin legal when voters approved Measure 109 in 2020. Psilocybin is the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms”. Federal law prohibits manufacture, possession, distribution of psilocybin, which is classified as a “Schedule I” drug. Learn about Oregon’s pioneering law; the promise psilocybin appears to offer to mitigate a variety of debilitating mental health challenges; how Oregon is preparing to implement this law starting in 2023. Who will be eligible to receive psilocybin therapy? Who will be able to provide such therapy? Where can the therapy take place? Does Oregon’s law provide protection from federal law enforcement? Are there other avenues to access psilocybin apart from M109: possible access under Right to Try laws.
